Senior Unit Update Week 9

Welcome to the final blog post for term 2 (maybe). There is lots of things to complete this week so here is an idea of what we are completing.

Christian Studies
This term we have been looking at Spirituality and our thought on it. Our final task is to create a Spirituality artwork. We have ha a few sessions to work on the design and thinking and this week is our week to complete the artwork.

Unit of Inquiry
Science experiments have been the theme of the Unit. We have conducted a couple of experiments on the children and also the staff. With the children we looked at "Does music effect how fast people run?" and the experiment we conducted on the staff was "Does the size of chocolate effect choice people make?" These experiments helped to show different ways and types that can be performed. We have started on our own experiments which are varied and interesting. This week is about collecting data and presenting findings. We look forward to seeing what results we get from the different experiments. (Feels like I said experiment too many times)

High Jump Tuesday

This Tuesday (tomorrow) some students will need to wear sports gear as they will be participating in High Jump at recess to get their final high jump score. We just wanted to pass this on so there isn't arguments at home over uniform.

Town of Gawler - Youth and Development Workshop
Today 8 students attended this workshop over the day to talk about the development of youth activities in the Gawler area. It was a chance to catch up with the Mayor and talk about what they would like to see. Hope to hear more about this through the week.

Catch you on the flip side

PS
I can't count how may times I failed maths at school.

Senior Unit Update Week 7 Term 2

Welcome back to the blog and we hope you had a restful and productive long weekend. It is always great to take a break from the rigours of routine.
With 3 weeks still to go in the term there is still plenty of things happening in the Senior Unit.

Cabaret
This Friday is School Cabaret. Many Senior Unit students are partaking in the entertainment on night and we hope you have got your tickets. If you haven't you need to get in soon. Tickets are available from the front office. It is building to a great and enjoyable night.

Christian Studies
We continue to look at spirituality and this week a task has been set that will need to be completed by the end of the term.
Assignment brief - Create an artwork that shows your spirituality
We discussed this as a group and that it will be a challenge. Children have the 3 things to help them focus. - Where do I find meaning?
          - How do I feel connected?
          - How should I live?
It can be presented in any medium that the children would like.
We know it will be a challenge but we know we are up for it.

Look that's it for the short week and as more stuff comes to hand we will get that info out.

Last thought

A good artist knows where to draw the line.

Senior Unit Update Week 6 2018

We have come to week 6 of the term and things are motoring on in the Senior Unit. As we head to a long weekend we look forward to the 3 day break and a chance to rejuvenate. Here a a few things happening in the Senior Unit at the moment.

Laces for Braces
Thanks to everyone who has volunteered to sell colourful laces before and after school. It has been great to the enthusiasm in the children to participate in this event. Thanks to Rachel, Flynn, Bodhi, Jessie, Ava, Kaden, Niamh, Holly and Bethany.

Unit of Inquiry
In our latest Unit of Inquiry we are investigating exploration. To start us out we have an assignment to do on an explorer. Here is the information for this assignment. Due Friday end of UOI session.
Senior Unit Top
Today in Parliament discussion was had about getting a Year 7 top and Year 6 top for students this year. In the next week a note will come out with more information on this subject.

The Number Six
Being week 6 here are a few facts about the number 6.
- 6 is the first perfect number being that the sum of it's factors minus itself equal 6.
eg 1 + 2 + 3 = 6

- June is the sixth month of the year.

- Every Braille cell is made up of 6 dots.

- The 6th element on the periodic table is carbon.

- Australia's sixth Prime Minister was Andrew Fisher.

Devotion thought
Today Mrs Eckermann shared a devotion on Confidence and about stepping out in faith. She shared an excellent clip about this and encourage everyone to have a watch.

Have a great week and remember

What's the difference between a nicely dressed man on tricycle and a poorly dressed man on a bicycle?
A tire.

Its back again this week and for those who found it last week it's the same but as only 4 hunters found it we will keep it going for this week.

My Script Calculator

Today with the Year 6's we have been looking at fractions of whole.
As an example

1/3 of 45

We have been looking at this for a bit and exposed the children to using digital devices to help calculate these kinds of sums.

To help with this we have been using calculators as being able to use digital technology to calculate is part of the mathematics curriculum.

One app that we have found very useful is the My Script Calculator.
This is a valuable app for everyone to have as it is an easy to calculator and provides scope for working and testing.

I have encouraged children to get it on their digital device if possible to add another string to their mathematical bow.

Try it out and I hope you enjoy.
